Far and away, the most common question our customers ask is about the mold smell in their homes. What is going on, and is there really cause for concern?
Believe it or not: you’ve encountered that dreaded mold smell before.
Whether it’s been in your grandmother’s basement, that one weird closet, or after a bad bout with water damage, you just kind of instinctively know there’s mold. It’s a “musty” odor. Something is off. So if you do know where water damage occurred or that a certain area has been neglected for a while…. You can most likely pin mold as the culprit.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, we all know what’s up. It’s something sort of rotten. And it’s something old.
Mold can be present without being visible.
Maybe you’ve installed mold resistant paints or textiles and think you’re protected. But that would be incorrect. Those measures can only help you so much.
Even if you don’t see the notorious black mold, spores and active mold is quite possibly encroaching upon the area. It can be in your clothes, the carpets, the wallpaper, the ceilings, under the floors — pretty much anywhere.
Do you have a mold problem? Beyond that mold smell hanging in the air?
Yes. There’s an extremely strong chance. That pungent odor doesn’t mean nothing, after all. You need to inspect what you safely can, and then call a professional. Depending on your case, this could be easily solved or take extensive professional work. We are always happy to talk with you and discuss your options, chances of full remediation without structural changes, and provide quotes.
