Smelly Trash

Rotting food is never a pleasant thing to think about, let alone smell. Perhaps you haven’t taken the trash out in a couple days and that smell of old Chinese food is starting to overpower the home. For starters, take out said garbage and throw it away. With really unpleasant garbage, the trash can tends to smell even after the waste has been disposed of. If this is the case, try pouring coffee grounds and a tablespoon of baking soda into a coffee filter. Tie it up and place the filter at the bottom of the trash can. This should help rid the can and house of the linger odor.

Refrigerator Odor

We’ve all had it happen at least once in our life. That moment when you open your fridge and immediately bad odors waft into your nose, promptly causing you to close the door. It’s a feeling that we never want to experience again, but if it does happen, here’s one of the best tips for odor removal in your fridge.

Start with the contents of the fridge, check for anything that is old, expired, or looks like it’s been there way too long. Remove those items and then place the non-perished items on the countertop for the time being. Then use a cleaning solution to fully wipe down all the surfaces in your fridge. You can create your own solution using ¼ cup of baking soda and 4 cups of warm water.

Stinky Bathroom

This is bar none one of the nastiest odors you can have. No one wants to walk into the bathroom and have to hold their breath. To keep your bathroom smelling like roses, implement these tips for odor removal in your bathroom.

Start by having a cleaning solution for your toilet that remedies any unwanted smell or look. This can be as easy as pouring 1 cup of vinegar into the bowl, letting it sit for 5 minutes, and then scrubbing and rinsing. Another thing to consider is having an air freshener is your bathroom at all times.

Bad Carpet Smells

Whether it’s because your pet had an accident or the constant footsteps of shoes, your carpet will eventually start to gather an unpleasant smell. Oftentimes, simply using a vacuum won’t completely rid your carpet of that lingering odor.

If that’s the case, trying sprinkling baking soda on the carpet and let that sit for 30 minutes or so. Then, vacuum up the carpet and the odor that was once there should be gone due to the baking soda absorbing the smell.

If your cat or dog decides that they can’t wait to go outside and pees on the carpet, don’t panic. Use a mixture of 50/50 water and vinegar and liberally apply to the area the accident happened. Let that sit for a few minutes and then use clean towels to soak up the liquid.

While we hope these tips for odor removal help you in the future, we realize there is not always an easy solution. If that’s the case, hire a professional like ProCare Restoration to remedy that situation and bring your home smelling like nothing happened.
