At ProCare Restoration, we believe prevention is the best method when it comes to halting mold growth in the home. However, many of our customers don’t know the first thing about mold prevention. That’s why we came up with this list of easy way to prevent mold growth in the home.
Use a dehumidifier
One of the easiest, most hassle-free ways to prevent mold growth is by using a dehumidifier, particularly in areas with a lot of moisture, like bathrooms. If you use a dehumidifier in your bathroom ,you eliminate the chance for mold to feed on that excess water and take root in your home. Be especially vigilant about sing it during and after you shower. It’s also helpful if your home has recently undergone flooding or some other type of water damage.
Turn on fans
Ceiling and windows fans can also be quite helpful in keeping your home free from excessive moisture. Fans can even push out dangerous mold spores before they get the chance to take hold in your home. Make sure to be extra diligent about using fans in your bathrooms and basement.
Open doors/windows
As the weather warms up, we recommend opening your windows and even opening doors between adjoining rooms. This will improve your home’s ventilation and prevent mold spores from getting too cozy in certain areas. It will also help to keep your home more dry, protecting it against mold growth.
Clean thoroughly
You may think you’re cleaning your home frequently and thoroughly enough, but are you really? Mold can grow in a multitude of places, especially when they aren’t cleaned often enough. Another mistake people make is to not dry areas after they clean them or spill water. This creates the perfect breeding ground for mold in the home.
Know the signs
Mold comes in many forms. It’s not always visible and it doesn’t always look like mold. Knowing the signs is key to prevention. You need to watch out for musty odors, allergy symptoms, or strange marks on your walls. These are just some of many signs of mold. Make sure to stay informed and be wary.
However, if you’re scared you have mold and aren’t sure, it’s totally fine to call in a professional. ProCare restoration is here to help you every step of the way to prevent and treat mold growth in the home.
