There are flood alerts this week along parts of the Illinois, Des Plaines, and Little Wabash rivers.
Remember: Flooded roadways are never okay to drive across. Instead, turn around and find a new route. Currents over flooded roadways are often much faster than they appear. In addition, water is often much deeper than it appears, and roadways can also be washed out entirely under the water.
Along the Illinois River, a flood warning is currently in effect for Brown, Cass, Morgan, Schuyler, Fulton, and Mason counties. For Cass, Fulton, and Mason counties, the flood warning is currently expected to remain in effect until Monday morning. For Brown, Morgan and Schuyler counties, the warning will expire Sunday afternoon.
On the Little Wabash river, a flood warning is in effect for Clay and Richland counties near Clay City. River levels are falling, and water levels are fortunately expected to go below the flood level sometime this evening.
The Des Plaines river has a flood warning in effect for Lake County near Russell and Gurnee. This warning will expire on Monday afternoon. As of last night, the river was expected to rise to 8 feet by this morning (December 2nd), and then the river levels will once again begin to fall.
All flooding is expected to be fairly minor; however, if it infiltrates into homes and other buildings, be sure to dry out the area as soon as possible to prevent mold growth. If there is any damage to your infrastructure as a result of the flood, be sure to learn more about our flood restoration and mold removal and remediation services, and give us a call to get things sorted out.
