5 Natural Mold Removal Methods

When you just have a little spot of mold, you may not want to call in a whole mold remediation crew. But mold is dangerous, so it’s important to know how to remove mold safely. You should also keep in mind that what you may consider a minor issue might best be left to the experts. However, if you just have a couple spots of mold, there are safe, natural mold removal methods you can use. See our suggestions below.

  1. Remove Moisture

Mold feeds on moisture, so removing moisture removes its food supply, making it impossible for the mold to survive. You can remove moisture by opening doors and windows, as well as turning on fans to to air out your whole home or a specific area. Dehumidifiers are also quite helpful with this. Just make sure to clean up the mold once it’s been dried out, so there’s no chance for it to return.

  1. Purify the Air

HEPA air filters can be quite effective at removing mold spores from the air, halting their ability to spread throughout your home. This is especially helpful if you clean a mold spot yourself, since disturbing the mold can release more spores into the air.

  1. Use Vinegar

Cleaning with vinegar is a great, non-toxic method to remove mold. All you have to do is spray some directly onto the mold and let it sit for a few minutes. Then simply wipe it off with a cloth or paper towel. It should be noted that this only works on very small amount of mold, and won’t do you any good if you have a full on infestation.

  1. Try Tea Tree Oil

Tee tree oil is an all natural essential oil that is anti-fungal, making it the perfect match for mold growth. All you have to do is apply tea tree oil to the area and let it sit for a few minutes so that its anti-fungal properties can fully kill the mold. Then wipe it away. Again, this is only for small amounts of mold.

  1. Spray Distilled Ethanol

Distilled ethanol, no matter the brand, is also pretty effective at killing mold. We actually recommend getting the most inexpensive kind because it’s been filtered less, making it more potent and therefore more effective at killing mold.

All of these are safe, effective, all natural mold removal methods. However, they are only for small scale mold problems. If you have (or suspect you have) a serious mold infestation, schedule a mold inspection with ProCare restoration today!
